One of the easiest and most cost efficient ways to protect the environment is the use of LED lights, primarily used in any backlit or illuminated signs. Just as turning off a light when you leave a room saves electricity, so does using long lasting LED lights. When compared to regular lights, LEDs are more energy-efficient, meaning less energy is used to power any sign illuminated with LEDs. LED bulbs use at least 75% less energy than incandescent lighting and lasts around 25 times longer. Because they last longer, less waste is produced, a very environmentally-friendly step. Eco-friendly alternative substrates are materials that have been proven to have a lower environmental impact and are reusable and recyclable at higher amounts further reducing waste. These include:

Enviroboard® MR (Moisture Resistant) is an exceptional multi-ply, water-resistant, green alternative to corrugated plastic boards and foam board. It can be used as a direct print to substrate or as mounting substrate. SpeedPro uses this substrate to create indoor Point of Purchase (POP) displays and hanging and upright signs. Enviroboard® MR is 100% recyclable and made of 10% PCW (post-consumer waste).

Falconboard signs are a rigid paper-based substrate that functions like heavy-duty foamboards, similar to Ultraboard Gatorboard, except the foam has been replaced with a honeycomb core of kraft board. This improvement creates a cost-effective green solution for mounting applications and an aesthetically pleasing funky “cut corrugated box” look of open-cell sides. Falconboard is lightweight, has cost-effective pricing, high rigidity and is 100% recyclable. Falconboard creates a cost-effective environmentally-friendly solution for graphic applications and is certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) to be recyclable with corrugated waste and is in fact made with SFI certified, renewable virgin, all-natural and post-consumer recycled fibers.

ConVerd Board is a rigid, fiber-based, recyclable alternative for structural signage applications that is a green alternative to PVC and styrene-based boards. It is 100% recyclable and uses 10% post-consumer waste.

EcoLogic Solvent Recyclable Banners are a multi-use vinyl banner material that is 100% recyclable. Compatible with our Latex or Eco-Solvent digital inks and Printable on one side. Ecologic Solvent Recyclable Banners are intended for indoor and outdoor use up to one year. EcoLogic is categorized as a Resin Code 7, which allows it to be truly recycled. SpeedPro is pleased with test results for this material as it is scrim based, which makes it ideal for all weather conditions and delivers saturated punchy colors.

Other ecological green banner products in our catalog include Decolit Roll-up Banner and BIOflex Biodegradable banner, which is a heavy 15 ounce, 1000 denier banner specially designed to be biodegradable. In landfill conditions, it will biodegrade within 3-5 years. It is resistant to sunlight and weathering, chemicals, oil, and uses no toxic materials in production.

Paper Products such as corrugated cardboard and cardstock are more quality green products. Eduraposter material is a 10 mil, 235 gsm wet strength paper that is recyclable, contains 30% post-consumer recycled waste, scratch and tear-resistant. It requires no lamination and contains no PVC or PET products. And best of all, it has a similar cost to less eco-friendly products and prints beautifully.

EcoDisplay Board is an alternative to foam core and plastic signage. Made from environmentally friendly wood pulp board with no plastics composites or mineral oils. These are 100% recyclable and compostable, created with 30% pre-consumer recycled material.

SpeedPro also has an array of PVC-free wallpapers, including super-green Dreamscape Terralon™, a product made with polyester/natural fibers containing over 31% recycled materials. Terralon™ combines Type II durability and a Class “A” fire rating in a highly breathable, recyclable wallcovering.

And don’t neglect to consider the value of re-usable signs such as standing snap frames, single-sided literature racks, adjustable media walls, and Rock-It Portable signposts. Because they can be used and reused multiple times, they do not need to be thrown away and can continue to have value for years to come
