Display Boards

What’s the best use for display boards?

At our San Carlos production studio, we create custom signboards for a wide variety of uses, from agenda or directional signage at events to point-of-sale advertising. If you need a display that won’t wrinkle, curl up, bend or fold when in use, and especially if it’s going to be on an easel stand or frame mount, our presentation boards do the job.

We print both single-sided and double-sided, and can also contour cut your board if you need a shape other than a rectangle. Our ESKO Kongsberg CNC cutting system allows us to precision-cut foamboard, expanded PVC, enviroboards (high-density corrugated cardboard) and other materials.

Let us know if you need a small easel-back for table display, grommets for hanging, Velcro or 3M Command strips for mounting. That’s easily accommodated, as is packing and shipping to whatever location (with the proper protective corners/padding, of course).

Choose from a variety of materials and finishes

Our signboards come in many forms, and the right choice depends on your needs and budget. If desired, we can apply an overlaminate on the presentation board with a gloss, luster or matte finish. With the durability of our UV inks, lamination is not necessary for scratch protection or preventing UV fading, but is an aesthetic step up that some clients love. Additionally, we offer a dry-erase laminate, which is perfect for scheduling boards and more.

Our most common board materials are:

  • Foamcore – This familiar material is 3/16ths or a 1/2 of an inch of foam sandwiched between sheets of clay-coated paper. It’s economical and lightweight, but can be fairly easily dented or pinched, so foamcore is best for short term usage, and not situations where boards will be transported or used in many different venues.
  • Gatorfoam or Ultraboard – The next step up from foamcore is a more rigid substrate that looks a lot like foamcore but has a denser foam and stronger faces. We like Ultraboard a lot since it features smooth polystyrene surfaces that resist warping or dents. Ultraboard presentation boards are most often 3/16”, but also are available in ½” or 1” depths, with white or black foam.
  • Expanded PVC (often referred to by the brand name Sintra). This substrate is solid, and heavier than the foam alternatives but is even more rugged. The most common thickness is 3mm (approx. 1/8”), but for larger boards, 3mm does not have the rigidity to stand up without a frame system. Because of its flexibility, Sintra is great if you need to bend a sign (around the front of a curved podium, for example).
  • Other options At SpeedPro of SF Peninsula, we also stock a fully recyclable substrate called Falconboard and can get heavy card stock, chipboard and other paper substrates if needed. For short-term outdoor signs, we stock corrugated plastic (also known as coroplast), though it’s generally not used often for indoor boards.
