Color matching

What Is Color Matching in Large Format Printing?

Color matching is the process of calibrating printer output so a specific brand color reproduces consistently across every substrate and every job. In practice this means ICC profile calibration for each printer and material combination, Pantone reference swatches on every proof, and G7-calibrated press controls. A corporate teal on vinyl banners should look identical to the same teal on an acrylic lobby sign or a vehicle wrap. Recent Chicago-area color work includes multi-substrate brand rollouts for Big Blue Swim School across locations in Chicago, Niles, and Wilmette.

Color Matching for Chicago Brand Rollouts

Brand color consistency matters most when a job produces output across multiple substrates or multiple production runs. A color mismatch between this year's banner and next year's reprint, or between the acrylic lobby sign and the van wrap, is the kind of mistake that makes a brand look unprofessional.

Pantone matching. If you have a PMS number, we match to that spot color across substrates. If you have only a digital file, we run a spectrophotometer reading and rebuild the color reference for future jobs.

How much does Pantone color matching add to a print job?

For standard large-format jobs with a Pantone-specified brand color, there is no additional charge. Color matching is included in our quoted price. Custom color calibration for unusual substrates or metallic or fluorescent inks may add $75 to $200 depending on scope.

How accurate is color matching between runs?

Our color tolerance target is Delta E under 2 for Pantone-referenced spot colors, effectively indistinguishable to the human eye at normal viewing distances.

Where we apply it. Typical Chicago-area color-matched production includes brand rollouts for corporate offices in Oak Brook and Downers Grove, retail rebrand programs in downtown Naperville and Hinsdale, hospitality installs at Chicago hotels like the Acme Hotel Company in River North, and multi-location brand work across DuPage County.
