Where We Install Wall Murals in Chicago
Our installation crew works across the Chicago metro every week. Most of our wall mural installs fall into one of these venue types, each with its own logistics:
Loop and River North office buildings
High-rise corporate offices, tenant fit-outs, and lobby installs in downtown Chicago. We’ve worked across buildings near Wacker Drive, Wells Street, and the Merchandise Mart. Loop installs typically require certificate of insurance on file with the building, freight elevator scheduling, and after-hours access for anything beyond a single accent wall. We coordinate directly with building management so the timeline doesn’t slip.
West Loop and Fulton Market restaurants and showrooms
Restaurant accent walls, hospitality lobby murals, and showroom branding in the Fulton Market and West Loop corridors. Exposed brick, reclaimed wood, and irregular wall surfaces are common in this area; we handle material selection for the substrate and recommend the install approach (full-bleed vinyl, panel-mounted prints, or fabric stretched over a frame) based on what’s actually on the wall.

Streeterville and River North retail and fitness
Boutique fitness studios, retail flagships, and street-level showroom installs. Retail and fitness installs often need to happen between close and open the next morning so customer-facing operations don’t pause. We schedule overnight installs in the city when the project requires it.
Suburban corporate campuses and mid-rise offices
Office parks and mid-rise buildings across Oak Brook, Naperville, Schaumburg, Downers Grove, Rosemont, and the I-88 / I-355 corridors. Suburban installs are typically more flexible on timing than downtown, but we coordinate with facilities managers around lease turnover and tenant build-out windows so graphics are up before the certificate of occupancy.
Evanston, Northbrook, Skokie, and the North Shore
Healthcare facilities, professional services offices, education and institutional clients across the North Shore. Project sizes range from a single conference-room accent wall to multi-floor wayfinding-and-mural integrated rollouts.
Wall Mural Pricing — Chicago Project Examples
Wall mural pricing depends on size, material, design complexity, and install logistics (downtown after-hours access costs more than a daytime suburban install). To make ranges concrete, here are typical Chicago project sizes we quote:
- Single accent wall, 50-100 sq ft (one conference room, one hallway feature, one lobby wall): $500 to $1,500 all-in including design, print, and install.
- Mid-size install, 100-300 sq ft (a Loop tenant lobby, a West Loop restaurant accent wall, a fitness studio motivational wall): $1,000 to $4,000 depending on material and install timing.
- Full-room or multi-wall, 300-1,000 sq ft (a corporate floor with hallway and conference graphics, a multi-room showroom, a tech-startup workspace): $2,500 to $12,000 depending on scope and access.
- Multi-location or floor-to-ceiling rollouts (Inc. 5000 client across four locations, multi-tenant building rebrand, retail chain refresh): scoped per project. We’ve delivered 20,000+ sq ft of murals and dimensional lettering for a single client across four Chicago-area locations.
Every quote is itemized: design, materials, production, and install separately. After-hours or overnight install in the Loop adds a premium; daytime suburban install does not. We tell you upfront what drives the price.
Materials Suited to Chicago Spaces
We pick materials based on the space, not a default. The Chicago commercial environment varies enough across neighborhoods and venue types that one material doesn’t fit every install:
- Smooth vinyl with matte, satin, or gloss finish — for painted drywall in offices and corporate lobbies. Most common spec for Loop high-rise installs.
- Textured wallcoverings and 3M wallpaper — for premium aesthetic and tactile interest. Used in hospitality, conference rooms, and design-forward retail.
- Canvas prints — for artistic and gallery-style installs in offices and creative spaces.
- Fabric (dye-sublimated) — for acoustic panels, removable installs in leased spaces, and trade-show-style backdrops that move between locations.
- Brick and reclaimed-wood-rated vinyl — for Fulton Market, West Loop, and similar exposed-brick buildouts. Different adhesive and conformability spec than smooth-drywall vinyl.
- Window film for glass surfaces — for printed graphics on conference room glass, storefronts, and partition walls.
All our commercial-grade materials are washable, durable, and rated for years in high-traffic environments. We use UV-resistant inks and protective laminates on installs with direct sunlight exposure.
Installation Logistics in Chicago
The install part is where most wall mural projects in Chicago go sideways for buyers who didn’t plan for the city’s logistical realities. We’ve done this for 18 years, so the operational details are part of every quote.
Certificate of insurance and building access
Most Class A office buildings in the Loop and River North require a current COI on file with property management before any contractor enters. We carry general liability coverage and provide COIs at the requested coverage limits, named additional insureds, and waiver of subrogation language. Allow 1-2 business days for the building to process the COI before the install date.
Freight elevator and loading dock scheduling
Most large-format graphics ship rolled or paneled, which means they don’t fit a passenger elevator. Building freight access in downtown Chicago is typically reserved in 2-4 hour windows, often early morning or weekend. We schedule with the building’s freight coordinator before the install date and confirm 48 hours ahead.
After-hours and overnight installs
Retail, restaurant, and customer-facing offices often need to install outside business hours so operations don’t pause. We schedule overnight installs in the Loop and downtown when the project requires it. Daytime install is also available and usually cheaper if your space can accommodate it.
Wall surface prep
Smooth, fully-cured painted drywall is ideal. Newly painted walls need 14+ days of cure time before vinyl install, otherwise the adhesive will lift. Textured walls, brick, concrete, and wood paneling all install with the right material and adhesive selection. We assess your specific surface during the site survey and tell you whether prep work is needed.
Install timing
Single accent walls install in 2-4 hours. Multi-wall projects span 1-2 days. Floor-to-ceiling lobby murals depending on access and substrate can run 1-3 days. We schedule the install to fit your operations, not the other way around.
Recent Chicago Installs
Our Chicago-area portfolio includes corporate headquarters with branded environments spanning thousands of square feet, boutique fitness studios with motivational graphics covering every surface, tech startups with collaborative workspaces featuring company values graphics, medical offices with calming imagery and integrated wayfinding, restaurants with floor-to-ceiling graphics establishing unique ambiance, and retail locations with seasonal graphics programs refreshed throughout the year.
One of our most rewarding categories is helping small and mid-size businesses tell their story on their walls. We’ve worked with swim schools for kids, HVAC companies, professional services firms, and other local businesses who want to share their mission, values, and what sets them apart. These graphics communicate culture to both customers and employees, distinguishing these businesses as organizations that care about the experience they create.
Different environments demand different materials. A swim school with high humidity near pool areas requires vinyl with specific adhesion properties. A short-term promotional install needs removable material that won’t damage painted walls. A warehouse mural needs something that withstands forklift traffic and temperature swings. We match the material to the environment, not the other way around.
On the larger end, we’ve completed over 20,000 square feet of wall murals and dimensional lettering across four locations for a single Inc. 5000 client. They chose us after experiencing color consistency problems with their previous graphics partner. We’ve delivered exact brand color matches across every location since.

Wall Mural Installation FAQ — Chicago
Standard production runs 5 to 10 business days from approved design to ready-to-install. Add 1-2 days for COI processing if the building requires it. Rush production is available when timelines are tight; we’ll tell you upfront whether we can hit your date and what the rush cost looks like. For Loop and downtown installs, schedule the freight elevator window 48 hours ahead of install.
Interior wall murals on the inside of a commercial building typically do not require a city permit. Exterior building wraps and exterior signage are different — those involve permitting through the City of Chicago. We handle the permit process for exterior projects when applicable. Interior murals usually only require building management approval and a current COI on file with the property.
Smooth painted drywall is the most common substrate. We also install on textured walls, brick (common in Fulton Market and West Loop buildouts), concrete, wood paneling, and glass. Each surface has a different adhesive and material spec; the site survey determines which combination is right for your wall.
Commercial-grade vinyl wall graphics typically last 7 to 10 years in indoor environments. Direct sunlight exposure, cleaning frequency, and traffic wear all affect longevity. We use UV-resistant inks and protective laminates to maximize lifespan. Removable vinyls used for short-term installs are rated for 1 to 3 years.
Yes when proper materials and installation techniques are used. Quality removable vinyl removes cleanly from properly cured painted drywall. This makes wall murals practical for leased spaces, short-term campaigns, and seasonal installs. Walls that were painted within the last 14 days have a higher risk of paint pull on removal — we discuss this during the site survey.
Yes. We regularly schedule after-hours and overnight installs for retail, restaurant, and customer-facing offices in the Loop, River North, West Loop, and Streeterville. Overnight installs add a premium to the install line of the quote; daytime install is cheaper when your space can accommodate it.
