Oklahoma City is in the midst of a remarkable evolution—growing from a quiet Southwestern hub into a vibrant, fast-expanding city filled with new developments, culinary destinations, and modern public spaces. At the heart of this movement is The OAK OKC, a next-generation open-air district designed to anchor the city’s newest wave of luxury retail, hospitality, and dining.

One of the district’s flagship restaurants is Mesero OKC, a two-story showpiece that blends innovative Tex-Mex cuisine with a sleek architectural presence. When planning their first Oklahoma location, CEO W. “Trey” R. Dyer III outlined three strict requirements:

  1. The space should express Mesero’s signature personality—without relying on over-themed décor.
  2. It needed to offer an acoustically comfortable dining experience, despite the hard-surfaced architecture.
  3. It had to open fast, in lockstep with The OAK’s development schedule.

To achieve this, Mesero’s ownership group partnered with Fusion-AE, an architectural and engineering firm specializing in restaurant and retail design. With the vision set, SpeedPro Irving was brought in to fabricate and install the custom acoustic system that would ultimately define the restaurant’s visual identity.

Turning an Acoustic Challenge Into a Show-Stopping Design Feature

The restaurant’s corner suite features nearly 28 feet of vertical volume. While the open, airy configuration created an impressive sense of scale, it also introduced a serious acoustical problem: tilt-wall concrete, floor-to-ceiling glass, and a two-level dining environment would cause intense echo, making conversation almost impossible.

Fusion-AE proposed a bold solution. They designed an irregular field of custom PET-felt acoustic baffles—a recycled fiberboard known for its excellent sound absorption, Class A fire rating, and lightweight structure. These baffles would hang in a cascading “drip” pattern, transforming the necessity of noise control into a visually striking centerpiece.

But because no off-the-shelf product matched the scale, shape, or color required, everything had to be fully custom.

Precision Fabrication by SpeedPro Irving

At our SpeedPro Irving production facility, we translated Fusion-AE’s concept into an engineered fabrication plan:

  • Custom-manufactured PET felt in a precise match to Mesero’s signature orange.
  • CNC-cut baffles, each uniquely shaped and individually nested to maximize material efficiency.
  • Full-scale physical mockups to review sightlines from both the main dining floor and the mezzanine.
  • Integration planning for sprinklers, emergency lighting, and continuous LED channels that extend through the curtain wall to the exterior soffit.

This prototyping step significantly accelerated approvals and eliminated guesswork—ensuring a smoother, faster installation once construction reached the right stage.

“The custom baffles turned a practical necessity into a visual centerpiece that adds a high-design element to the space while reinforcing our brand,” Dyer said during a mid-project review.

Fabrication unfolded in four tightly coordinated stages—color production, CNC cutting, pre-assembly and labeling, and final installation. With PET’s low weight, no secondary steel structure was needed, saving both time and cost. Once the trades cleared each zone, our team lifted each baffle into place, forming the dramatic ceiling that now defines Mesero OKC’s interior.

Details That Shape the Guest Experience

While the ceiling makes the strongest statement, several supporting details help create a unified, comfortable environment:

  • Warm wood accents soften key walls without adding unnecessary weight.
  • A bold, bright-blue bar feature establishes a contrasting visual anchor.
  • The open-kitchen concept was refined with a clear glass enclosure, preserving the culinary energy while managing sound.

From day to night, the glowing orange baffles—visible through two full stories of glass—have become a natural beacon for The OAK OKC district, drawing visitors and aligning perfectly with the development’s modern, elevated brand.

A Collaboration That Sets a New Standard

Mesero OKC represents the best kind of project: one where every stakeholder—owner, architect, contractor, and fabricator—worked together early to create solutions instead of compromises. The result is a restaurant defined by design intelligence, material innovation, and flawless execution under a compressed schedule.

For SpeedPro Irving, this project showcases how custom fabrication can elevate a restaurant’s identity and turn functional requirements into unforgettable brand moments. Mesero OKC isn’t just another tenant in The OAK district—it’s one of the spaces helping shape the area’s emerging character.

And at the center of it all is a ceiling that started as a challenge… and became a landmark design feature.
